Vance was said to speak with Trump regularly during the negotiations, indicating to some on the Iranian side that he was not empowered to make decisions about whether to accept Iran’s terms.
And during the talks, Trump played down the chances for a deal, saying that “maybe they make a deal, maybe they don’t, it doesn’t matter. From the standpoint of America, we win.”

결정권도 없고 트럼프의 변덕도 못잡는 밴스가 무슨 협상을 한다고 설쳐?
물론 협상이란건 반드시 리더가 직접 할 필요는 없다지만, 대리인을 내세우려면 브레인스토밍을 거쳐 기본 입장을 확실히 정하고 조건부라도 교섭권을 줘야지.
그런데 밴스는 교섭을 할 권한이 없어요. 협상 도중 트럼프의 변덕을 일일히 확인해야 해. 그러다 뭐라도 교섭하는 순간 트럼프가 실시간으로 딴소릴 해버리지.
이러니 협상이란게 될 수가 없지.
